THOUSANDS of people have shown their support for Halton Hospital’s bid to become a foundation trust by becoming members.
The membership scheme encourages people to get involved by electing hospital governors to represent their views.
During the 12-week consultation period, the hospital received feedback and ideas from the public and staff on how to better involve the community in the future.
NHS Foundation status would allow the hospital greater financial freedom.
Catherine Beardshaw, chief executive of North Cheshire Hospitals, said: “We’re delighted with the interest local people have shown, and to recruit 3,600 members in just 12 weeks is a fantastic achievement.
“People have really taken to the idea of being able to have a bigger say on their hospitals.”
She added: “We want to continue this engagement with the community and being a foundation trust will allow us to do this.”
