Fake cold caller claiming to be from Cheshire police

A FAKE cold caller is ringing businesses claiming to be from the police press office, demanding payments for advertising in an in-house police publication.

Cheshire Police are warning business of the scam and asking for extra vigilance.

Spokesman Dave Murray said: “The victim was contacted by somebody claiming to be from the Cheshire Police Press Office demanding payment for advertising in a police publication.

“On this occasion the recipient of the call did not part with any credit card details and then threatened to contact his solicitor. The phone was then put down.

“Cheshire Police would like to reinforce the message that we do not employ the tactics of cold calling and we do not contact businesses in this way.”

If anyone is contacted in this way they should take down as many details as possible and ring 0845 458 0000.
