A COUPLE were injured and a three-year-old left shaken when a gas fire in their Chester living room exploded.
A 24-year-old man had cuts to his legs and a 23-year-old woman had cuts to her arms during the blast but their three-year-old child thankfully escaped without injury.
The explosion happened shortly after 4pm today (Sunday, April 20) at a privately-rented house in Thurston Road, Saltney.
A spokesman for Cheshire Fire Service said: “It seems the occupier had lit the gas fire and on ignition it exploded, showering the lounge with shards of glass.
“All three occupants were sat in a car adjacent to the property when the ambulance arrived and both adults were treated at the scene.
“The fire had a current safety certificate and the matter is now being investigated by National Grid and the Health and Safety Executive.”
