Walk event strides out once more

A PROGRAMME of 15 guided walks makes up this year's Frodsham Festival of Walks – from an all-day trek along the North Cheshire Way to a gentle family stroll and pond dipping.

The annual event offers residents and visitors the chance to explore Frodsham's network of public footpaths and learn a little of the history of some of the area's most notable features.

The fifth festival will run from April 26 to May 5 and is organised by the town council.

This year there will also be a ramble on Helsby Marshes, and another all-day walk taking in the Helsby and Frodsham horseshoe, starting with a train journey to Helsby, then climbing Helsby Hill and a return trek to Frodsham.

The town council's Footpaths Committee chairman, Cllr Graham Bondi, will lead the Secret Frodsham walk on April 30, “taking in some of the less-frequented but interesting parts of the town.”

Other planned routes include: Riverside Walk; Pub Lunch Walk; Family Pond Dip; Sandstone Trail 2; Castle Park Walk; Bluebells and Wild Garlic and Four Hills of Frodsham; Three Seats and Industry Watch, A trek along “our side” of the River Weaver with a local engineer to learn more about the industry on the other side, including the famous Weaver Bend birdwatching site.

And for early birds, there is even a Dawn Chorus walk, starting at 6am on May 5.

Cllr Bondi said: “We are getting more and more people taking part and are trying to improve on that by introducing more variety and literally going that extra mile!”
