Cat’s back was broken by attack
HEARTLESS thugs have kicked a family pet to death in the latest of a spate of attacks in the area.
Three-year-old long-haired cat Bella died yesterday following the vicious attack last Friday.
Her owner Caroline Povey, of Tudor Green, Blacon, got Bella three years ago from a rescue centre.
Caroline said: “She was such a lovely character, so loving and kind-natured. She had a litter of kittens two years ago and one of her kittens still lives with me. She’s been pining for her mum, it’s heartbreaking.
“I hand-fed Bella and tried to make her as comfortable as possible but she just went downhill so quickly. She must have been in absolute agony.”
Caroline’s mum, Pauline Povey, of Saxon Way, Blacon said: “I have no idea how, but Bella managed to get home after the attack, she could barely move and kept being sick.”
“We took her straight to the emergency vet, who gave her antibiotics. But she still wasn’t right on Monday when we took her to our normal vet. She had an x-ray which showed she was kicked so hard her back was broken.
“It’s like a member of the family has been murdered and the person who did this should be punished.”
The latest attack comes just weeks after another cat died after being caught in a metal ‘gin trap’ in Rhuddlan Road.
Pauline added: “Our pets aren’t safe any more when cats are getting caught in traps or kicked to death. Something has to be done to stop these yobs.”
Vet James Storrar was enraged when he saw what had happened.
He said: “It’s disgusting that there are people who would do this to a defenceless animal.”
