A CHESHIRE tourist attraction has been nominated as one of the North West’s best picnic spots.
Beeston Castle is one of 10 attractions in the region to be shortlisted in this year’s Warburtons Picnic Awards.
Rebecca Milton of English Heritage said: “Beeston Castle is an unbeatable place for a perfect picnic. With its spectacular views stretching from the Pennines to the mountains of Wales and its extensive network of paths, which snake through some stunning countryside, it’s an ideal spot for a family day out.
“And this year, for the first time, people will be able to enjoy woodland picnics with the launch of a series of new trails around the site.”
Up against nine other picnic spots across the North West, Beeston Castle will be given the chance to represent the region in the national final. Also, each person who votes will be entered into a prize draw to win a family picnic in Central Park, New York.
During the final heat, the North West winner will go on to battle it out against the other regional winners from across the UK for the coveted title of Warburtons Best Picnic Spot 2008.
The overall winner will receive a £1,000 cash bursary for the site and a plaque and each regional winner will also be presented with a £500 bursary towards maintenance of the site, ensuring visitors can continue to enjoy picnics in future years.
The second annual awards is being held as part of the build up to this year’s National Bread Week, which runs from May 5- 11
