Captain to give up river after boat capsizes

A BOAT is submerged in the River Dee after it hit a bank, capsized and sank.

The captain of the 13ft Sunseeker and two women passengers had to wade to shore after the steering mechanism failed on Thursday afternoon at Crook of the Dee, near Eccleston Ferry. No-one was hurt.

The 67-year-old owner, who did not wish to be named, was unable to right the boat. He said: “The steering cable snapped as we were part-way round the bend and there was nothing I could do to stop it hitting the bank.

“I felt awful when we turned over, although we had a laugh about it when we were walking back, soaking wet, me with no shoes on.

“I was given the boat last year and spent all winter doing it up – I think I’ll just sell up now, I’m too old to be messing about on the river.”
