Pupils are centre stage for festival

SIXTH formers at Dorin Park School have been acting up.

The youngsters created a theatre group to take part in the Shakespeare Youth Festival at Clwyd Theatr Cymru.

The Lighting the Stage company performed an abridged version of the bard’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the event which involved a number of schools and youth theatres from across Cheshire and North Wales.

Student Robert Surrey, 18, was director of the piece which involved 22 of the school’s pupils under the supervision of drama teacher Pauline Sallis and music teacher Liz Roberts from the performing arts department.

Robert said: “It was a great and exciting experience for me and my fellow students which we hope to expand in the near future.”

The students raised funds from second-hand book sales and raffles to raise funds for the project and celebrated the finished work with a party.

The group have been asked to perform as part of Liverpool’s European Capital of Culture 08 celebrations.
