Scottish Power Young Person of the Year award
VICTORIA Dodd of Rope Green Farm Day Nursery has scooped this year’s ScottishPower Young Business Person of the Year award.
Victoria, aged 33, set up the nursery less than 12 months ago in a barn conversion within the family-owned working dairy farm in the village of Shavington. The nursery is registered to provide 74 children, aged 0-5 years, at any one time.
Children attending the nursery are offered the unique experience of being a ‘little farmer’ by learning how to grow and take care of their own fruit and vegetables and planting and growing their own herbs.
They learn about, and have the opportunity of taking care of, the nursery pigs, and can feed the calves, chickens and pygmy goats that live on the farm.
Just 10 months after opening, the nursery has grown from its original 10 children and five members of staff to 130 children and a 20-strong team of staff.
Also shortlisted in this category were:
Rob Smith of Blueleaf;
Richard Nicholls of Cestrian Builders.
