A PROFESSIONAL doctorate, developed for senior managers, is to be launched by Chester Business School at the University of Chester.
The Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) is an innovative programme, designed as an alternative to the PhD, for professional people who prefer a mixture of taught sessions combined with a strategic research dissertation.
Caroline Rowland, professor in leadership management and sub dean of the Faculty of Business, Enterprise and Lifelong Learning, said: “Unlike most PhDs, which are normally based on one major project, the DBA will include some lectures and will be more practitioner-led, with study centred on the workplace.
“The programme is of a strategic nature and will increase the learner’s professional capabilities while at the same time addressing organisational objectives. It is aimed at those who have completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme or a similar qualification, or those who have a significant amount of senior managerial experience.”
Delivered over four years, the programme is designed in a flexible way and allows the participants to choose the themes they are interested in.
Professor Rowland added: “We are very excited to be offering this professional doctorate. We have developed it in response to what busy and innovative professionals wanted.”
The programme will be delivered from October 2009 and applications close on September 3.
