Carlina to take the plunge for charity

A CHESTER hairdresser used to making waves, is tackling waves of a different kind for charity.

Carlina Werngren, 24, a stylist at Toni and Guy Essensuals, is swapping hair cream for Jersey cream when she swims around the island to raise money for Cancer Research UK on July 21.

“One of my clients was telling me about when she swam the Channel last year,” she said. “When she asked me if I wanted to take part in the swim around Jersey for charity, I thought it was a great idea.

“I used to swim competitively when I was younger but I haven’t been near a pool for seven years, so the training has been quite tough.”

She is one of three swimmers taking part and they have been training since January. The trio have been braving the icy temperatures of the sea at Rhyl and Liverpool.

Carlina, who moved to Upton from her native Sweden seven years ago, has been working at the Bridge Street salon since it opened three years ago.

She is swimming for Cancer Research UK, as both her mum and one of her cousins have survived breast cancer, as well as other family members and friends. “Everyone knows someone whose lives have been affected by cancer,” said Carlina.
