WORK is due to start on a £70,000 environmental improvement project at Caldy Nature Park in Chester.
The project has been funded by contributions from the Friends of Caldy, Boughton Heath parish council, contributions from developers and a £45,950 grant awarded by WREN, a not for profit business that awards grants to community projects across the UKŠon behalf of Waste Recycling Group (WRG).
The work follows extensive consultation between Cheshire West and Chester Council and local schools and community groups.
The money will be used to implement a range of improvements to the park, such as:
Better access for people with different levels of mobility, including more seating, repairing and replacing bridges and improving footpaths.
Improving the wetland area, enhancing the main pond to encourage better nature conservation and creating a new wetland scrape to increase the variety of habitat in the park.
Weir work near the Millennium Bridge to improve control of the water flow to the pond, thus reducing the likelihood of flooding.
New notice board and timber knee rail at car park area to prevent vehicular access onto the meadow
The work should be completed by Christmas.
