Stolen lorries in Ledsham
A SUSPECTED thief has been arrested in hospital after he was hit by one of three stolen HGVs.
The man, who had driven one of the vehicles, was fleeing police in a car park in Ledsham when another HGV collided with him.
The incident began in the Greenfields area of North Wales in the early hours of this morning (Thursday, August 13).
The vehicles, which police suspected were stolen, were sighted in Holywell by North Wales patrols and followed to the Cheshire border but police made no pursuit or attempt to stop the vehicles.
Cheshire Police officers assisted North Wales patrols in approaching the three HGVs when they pulled into a car park on Parkgate Road, Ledsham near Ellesmere Port just before 1.30am.
When one of the occupants of the HGVs attempted to make off from the patrols on foot, one of the other HGVs collided with him.
As a result the 34-year-old man from Liverpool received injuries to his pelvis and is currently in a stable condition in the Countess of Chester hospital. Police arrested him there on suspicion of theft.
Two of the HGVs were recovered but a third made off from the scene together with offenders.
Due to the proximity of the police at the time of the collision, the Independent Police Complaints Commission have been notified and the circumstances surrounding the incident will now be investigated by North Wales Police and Cheshire Constabulary.
Police are appealing for witnesses in relation to the incident, particularly anyone who sighted the HGVs in the North Wales/Ellesmere Port area, to contact police on 0845 458 0000 or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
