FAMILIES in Blacon have been decorating their homes with festive lights for a competition aimed at discovering the best illuminations in town.
The Christmas competition aims to uncover the best lit up streets and properties across Blacon and is set to be a sure success with a number of prizes available for the lucky winners.
The contest has been organised by Blacon area committee in partnership with First Buses, with invaluable help from local residents and youngsters from Blacon High School.
Barbara Coleman, Area Manager for Blacon said: “Once more we are amazed and delighted by the efforts Blacon residents make to demonstate community spirit at its most festive. People of all ages and beyond Blacon must come and see Chester's best kept secret - Blacon in Lights 2008!”
Supported by First Bus, £500 of prize money in the form of Tesco vouchers will be awarded to households who contributed to the two best street displays and to the six households voted by judges to have the best individual displays.
Paul De Santis, commercial director for First’s bus services in Chester and Wirral, said: “First is delighted to be getting involved with the festive fun in Blacon once again.
“I am looking forward to seeing what the people of Blacon have got out on display this year. If last year was anything to go by then I am in for a treat which could have Father Christmas himself giving the thumbs up.”
Judging has taken place this week and the winners will receive their prizes at a special awards ceremony at Blacon High School on January 13.
