HUNDREDS of people in Santa suits took over Chester last weekend to raise money for the Countess of Chester Hospital.
More than 200 men, women and children took part in the Santa Stroll - a sponsored 5km walk which took place on Sunday (December 7).
The adults and children who wore festive Santa suits and reindeer antlers braved the cold weather to raise funds towards Relative Comfort, the new £500k fundraising appeal which will offer accommodation, lounge areas and counselling rooms for relatives and loved ones of critically ill patients.
The event was truly a family affair with adults and children of all ages getting into the festive spirit while completing the walk and braving the crisp December weather in their outfits.
Fundraising manager, Kate Taylor, said: “The Santa Stroll was a huge success this year thanks to everyone who took part. I’d just like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved, particularly those who helped us along the way.
“Marcher Sound provided fabulous entertainment and the Royal Welsh Fusiliers provided the refreshments and even more entertainment at the Dale Barracks which kept everyone motivated. I’d also like to thank Bam Nuttal, Bakemark and HomeInstead for their support.”
Events fundraiser, Kathy Kenney, said: “What a fantastic day, we were blessed with the weather and the event has been so well received by walkers and supporters that they can’t wait for next year’s.”
It is hoped that the event will raise up to £10,000 towards Relative Comfort and the money is already flowing in according to Kate.
She added: “At this time of year when everyone has got a number of commitments it’s fantastic that they have shown their support to such a worthy cause. A special thanks must go to Lenny Cunningham and Nick Harding from Cruise nightclub who have raised nearly £1,000 alone.”
Continuing the Christmas theme, the trust is now encouraging members of the public to sign up to the annual Turkey Trot event for the Angela Gildea Breast Care Memorial Fund.
