BISHOP Heber High’s head boy Sam Green and deputy head girl Kate Farmer returned triumphantly to the Malpas school this summer from the Ultimate Frisbee World Championships in Vancouver.
Sam was playing for Great Britain Juniors who surpassed expectations by beating France, Japan and Australia to reach the semi finals, but then lost out to a well organised Canadian junior team.
They then just missed out on the bronze medal, losing to the vastly improved German juniors. However, fourth place is their best ever performance at a world championships and they were delighted with their performance.
Meanwhile, Kate was playing for Great Britain Junior Women who were not faring so well in the round robin stage, suffering heavy losses against the USA, Finland, Australia, Japan and Columbia.
The team then began to find some form and after some decent matches against Canada and Finland for a second time, they had to play Finland one final time.
With everyone now playing their best Ultimate of the week, including ex-Heber pupil Katie Holmes and Wirral based players like Johanna Szczyglowska and Abbie Dutton, Great Britain Junior Women won to finish as the highest placed European team, which bodes well for next year’s European Championships.
