WI federation organises a day of fun

CHESHIRE’S Year of the Garden 08 celebrations were celebrated by Chester Federation of Women’s Institutes.

The one-off garden party event took place at Cheshire View in Christleton and attracted more than 300 WI members from all parts of the county.

Ladies enjoyed a day of fun activities and could view competition entries for knitted cakes and a decorated hat parade.

Other activities during the day included tin can alley, guess the weight of the cake, how many buttons in a jar, lawn darts and a raffle.

Organiser of the event and president of Duddon, Clotton and District WI, Francis Woolen, said: “I’ve never organised an event like this before but I am on the executive committee and the idea just came to me.”

The event also celebrated the federation’s newly acquired floribunda rose Jam and Jerusalem, which is being sold through the CWFI.

“We wanted to keep the emphasis of the day on fun, so we didn’t have big value prizes for the games. The money raised will go towards funding future events by the CFWI.”
