A HARD-WORKING Chester volunteer who has helped clear the way for a green path project in the city is in line for a Your Champions accolade.
Audrey Hodgkinson, of Sefton Road, Hoole, has been nominated in the Champion of the Year category for her progress in taking the Chester Greenway project forward.
Audrey, of the Friends of Chester Millennium Greenway, said: “Our aim was to have a traffic-free pathway, not just a cycle path but one for pedestrians too, running along Guilden Sutton and Mickle Trafford, instead of a busway.
“It succeeded via the Connect 2 project and money from the National Lottery. We have done very well on that front.
“It’s blossomed now, Blacon people have had a volunteering project too and it’s great to see how children and everyone have got involved. It is wonderful to see and it has brought encouragement and enjoyment.”
The pathway project is now not far off completion, with work on linking the path to Mickle Trafford in progress.
Audrey added the benefits of the project would be easy to see.
“It’ll allow people to get out and about instead of using their cars on bypasses. Trees have been saved and hundreds of daffodils have been planted.
“We also plan to have fruit trees along the path, so people can pick fruit from them, and that will open in late October.”
