A CHESTER community helper has been nominated for a Your Champions award.
Gillian Newall, of Belgrave Road, Great Boughton, has been nominated for the work she does in organising and running three youth groups in the Caldy Valley community.
This is despite Gillian having been struck with a virus that put her in hospital for a long time and left her disabled.
Sharon Davis, who nominated Gillian for the Your Champions Champion of the Year, paid tribute to her selfless attitude and committed efforts.
She said: “She is always very positive, working totally voluntarily for the local community.
“The children at the youth clubs value her contributions and are all grateful.
“She is incredibly generous with her time, has a wonderful sense of humour, and enjoys working with young people.
“Gillian has an amazing amount of patience and will always put other people before herself.”
The youth groups Gillian helps run are called Frantic, Manic and Hectic, and take place in the Caldy Valley Neighbourhood Church and Centre during school term time.
Activities available for children at the clubs include table tennis, pool, football, outdoor activities, a games console room, a tuck shop and craft activities.
The sessions are given support from parents in Caldy Valley.
