Your Champions: Anna Cooper nominated for Champion of the Year

FORMER Frodsham Science and Technology acting head, Anna Cooper has been nominated for a Scottish Power/Trinity Mirror Cheshire Your Champions award.

Mrs Cooper has been nominated for dedication and commitment to the school as it prepared for closure over the last year.

The 54-year-old headteacher who taught at Frodsham for 12 years told The Chronicle: “From the moment the closure process started, I knew I wouldn’t have a job at the end of it.”

She said some of Frodsham’s 23 teachers have been offered new posts at Helsby High School on either one or two year contracts or found teaching posts at other schools in Cheshire.

Mrs Cooper said: “It’s been quite a testing time and various people have asked me to do other things, such as consultancy work. But for now, I plan to take some time out, have a holiday and reflect on what to do.”

True to Frodsham High’s final year motto, Finish with a Flourish, Mrs Cooper said she was determined to keep last week’s farewell assembly ‘very upbeat.’

“It was a celebration of everything the children had done and we kept the basics going, like presenting awards for attendance and achievement, and saw them on their way with our best wishes for the future.”

Mrs Cooper said she had enjoyed leading the school which had “smashed every target the government has set in every area and been named one of the best schools in Cheshire.”

Mrs Cooper said her abiding thoughts of Frodsham High would be “great pride in a really successful, inclusive school that has catered for the whole community, students who went on to top universities as well as children with special needs.”
