New bus service between Kingsway & Hoole

A NEW bus service has been launched to take Kingsway residents into Hoole.

The special 53A service is operated by Arrowebrook Coaches off-peak during the closure of Hoole Bridge.

Between 10am and 2pm the bus will travel from Kingsway, down Hoole Road and back up Ermine Road on to Brook Lane, Newton Lane and then Kingsway.

“I am sure that this bus service, supported by the county council, will be well used by local people who can make their usual trips into Hoole for shopping, going to a bank or for doctor’s appointments” said County Councillor Molly Hale.

“It will operate throughout the closure of Hoole Bridge, Monday and Saturday each week.

“I raised this particular bus issue at a county council meeting because of its importance for local people and I am very pleased that the service is now running.”

Chester City Council Leader Margaret Parker welcomed the new service saying: “This temporary service is being backed by the County Council and I hope it will be well used by local people who want to show their support for small businesses during this difficult time while the Hoole Bridge is closed.”

The City Council has launched free evening car parking and a poster campaign has also been launched aimed at encouraging people to use local shops.

County council engineers are monitoring the situation following the closure of the Bridge and are looking for ways to ensure the best possible flow of traffic.

They are warning drivers that traffic will be heavier when schools reopen next week after half term.

Hoole Bridge is closed for up to 12 weeks while contractors for Network Rail carry out bridge- strengthening work.

All Chester’s park and ride sites are open from 6.30am during the bridge closure and are free for the first hour.
