THE Water Tower is situated in the north-west corner of the city walls and was built in the 14th century.
This tower is also named Bonewaldesthorne's Tower, reportedly after an officer in the army of Aethelflaed, daughter of Alfred the Great.
It replaced the original Bonewaldesthorne's Tower, which became useless as a city defence when the River Dee silted up and changed course.
Although the new tower was built to extend the walls into the river, the course of the river has since changed again, so the tower is now surrounded by gardens.
