Roman Garden

Roman Garden, Chester

THIS display of Roman baths masonry can be found next to the Newgate.

It includes a reassembled hypocaust (under-floor heating system) and various columns.

The garden was established in 1949 either by Graham Webster, Grosvenor Museum curator, or by City Engineer Charles Greenwood, as the city's contribution to the Festival of Britain in 1951.
