Chester FC: Lasting tribute to Richard Wightman unveiled at Exacta Stadium

CHESTER FC have unveiled a ‘unique and long lasting’ tribute to a former board member.

A clock bearing Richard Wightman’s name was erected last Friday on the Cheshire Luxury Cars Stand and fans got their first glimpse of it on Saturday when the Blues hosted Stafford Rangers.

The match, which was attended by Richard’s mum Lesley, marked the first anniversary of his passing.

Blues director Jeff Banks said: “The board wanted to mark the anniversary with something unique and long lasting at the football club.

“We felt that the clock signifies just that.”

Lifelong Blues fan Richard, of Hoole, passed away last January following an illness, aged 33.

A wheelchair user all his life, he had played a key role in getting the reformed Chester FC off the ground and was membership secretary for the City Fans United supporters group.

The clock bearing his name was fitted by Smith’s of Derby.

Chester FC has sent its condolences to the family of Betty Challinor, one of the club’s longest serving fans.

Betty, 84, died in the early hours of Sunday.
