NEIL Young could not disguise his frustration despite seeing the four-way race for the championship take a decisive swing in Chester FC's favour.
The Blues took advantage of slips from all of their title rivals to move three points clear at the top with a 2-1 win over lowly Mickleover Sports – but their manager was far from satisfied.
Young said: “I thought we were sloppy from the first minute to the 94th.
“Although we were the better side and we missed eight or nine glaring chances, it wasn’t a great performance.
“We were at home and we went with two up front and with two wide players but I think you could see it doesn’t work for us – we look too open and people get at us too easily.
“We tried to be open and get at Mickleover, who to be fair dug in and kept going because once I thought we got the second goal it could have been any score.
“We missed a couple of chances and then gave another sloppy goal away. It gave them a lift and they had a right go.
“I know people want to see expansive football, no-one more so than me, but we were far too open and if we go to Chorley and do the same we’ll get a good hiding.”
Third-placed Chorley, who play host to Chester this coming Saturday (1pm), were the only other side in the top four to pick up a point on Saturday as second-placed Hednesford Town and fourth-placed Northwich Victoria both lost.
Young is hoping to make a new addition to his squad before the top-of-the-table clash at Victory Park.
He is in talks to bring in an experienced defender on non-contract terms, a deal which would allow the player in question to leave the Blues before the end of the season should a Football League club come in for him.
