THE Chester FC board are discussing what action to take over striker Jamie Rainford’s Facebook barney with supporters.
The club record signing whipped up a storm late last week when he labelled a section of the Blues fan base as ‘muppets’ on the social networking site.
Rainford, who added he was ‘beyond caring’, has since been sent out on loan to FC Halifax Town. But he could still be disciplined by his employers.
Blues chief executive Pat Cluskey: “The matter was discussed at the club’s board meeting on Monday and now we are looking at what options to take.”
Neil Young said after Saturday’s FA Trophy victory over Stafford Rangers that Rainford should be held responsible for what he writes on Facebook.
But the Chester boss insisted his decision to farm the 23-year-old out to Halifax was for footballing reasons.
Rainford, who has endured a disappointing start to his Blues career after making a five-figure move from Marine in the summer, made his debut for Halifax on Saturday and is expected to feature in their big FA Cup first-round tie on Sunday.
The Blue Square North outfit, who are paying Rainford’s wages, welcome League One leaders Charlton Athletic to The Shay on Sunday for a live ITV1 clash (12.30pm).
Rainford said: “It is not a bad time to be arriving at Halifax and that was obviously a big draw. But I am just interested in playing football.”
Chester have been drawn away to Stourbridge, managed by Blues old boy Gary Hackett, in the third qualifying round of the FA Trophy.
The tie will take place on Saturday, November 26 and replaces the scheduled league trip to North Ferriby United.
