Chester FC racehorse on loan from Michael Owen ready for big race

FANS of Chester FC will be hoping for another win when the racehorse leased to the club by Michael Owen runs at the Roodee.

The team clinched promotion from the Evo-Stik First Division North last weekend.

And tomorrow tomorrow (Friday, May 6) Marine Boy will run in Chester FC’s blue and white colours, will in the Layla Hotel Earl of Grosvenor Handicap at 1.45pm.

Manchester United striker Owen and Andrew Black, co-owners of Manor House Stables in Malpas, have leased the horse to Blues supporters through a membership scheme called the Chester FC Racing Club (CFCRC).

Chester-born Owen has close links to the Blues as his father Terry and brother-in-law Richie Partridge played for the club.

The former Liverpool player even invited Chester FC manager Neil Young to the Roodee yesterday (Wednesday) to present the winner’s trophy at the end of the Manor House Stables Lily Agnes Stakes - the first race of the three-day Chester May Festival.

Owen was thrilled to see the Blues clinch the Evo-Stik First Division North title.

He said: "I hope Chester FC progress back up the league to where they belong."

Mike Foster, racing manager of CFCRC, added: "Marine Boy is bound to get the biggest cheer of the day."
