Chester FC: Mick Wadsworth delight at rise of reborn Blues

THE supporters who resurrected Chester FC have received a huge pat on the back by the manager who painfully predicted the old club’s demise.

Mick Wadsworth this week told The Chronicle of his pleasure at the massive strides the reborn Blues continue to make after rising from the ashes of Chester City FC.

Wadsworth famously likened managing City “to rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic” in the final days of a turbulent rein that ended in September last year.

It therefore did not come as a surprise to the newly-turned 60-year-old when the club sank into oblivion in March.

But his sadness at seeing that happen has been tempered by his delight at what has come next.

Wadsworth, who yesterday celebrated his birthday, said: “I enjoyed my time at Chester – although it was interesting to say the least – and it was with great sadness when it all came to an end.

“It was most important the club continued in some form and so I find it marvellous that the supporters have regenerated the club. Now I hope Chester can get on that long haul up the leagues. It’s a Football League town that has had some very good teams and some outstanding players over the years.

“It was very welcome for me to hear and see the club up and running again, and I hope most genuinely over the next few seasons they enjoy every success.”

Wadsworth has also resurrected his football career. The well-travelled Yorkshireman is currently caretaker manager of League One side Hartlepool United, who entertain Chester’s neighbours Vauxhall Motors in the FA Cup on Saturday.
