Chester FC: Chester FC boss Neil Young delighted with Wakefield win

NEIL Young cut a satisfied figure after Chester recorded what he believes could be a vital victory at Wakefield.

Last season’s top two in the Evo-Stik League First Division North - FC Halifax Town and Lancaster City - failed to win at College Grove while yesterday’s result was the first time Young had won at the West Yorkshire outfit.

Throw in a difficult, long and uneven surface, and the fact that Young’s men are still a work in progress, you could understand the Blues manager’s satisfaction at a job well done.

Young said: "I have said on many occasions that you have to go to places and win ugly, with not the normal football we would like to play.

"I have learned over the years you can’t come to places like Wakefield, on a pitch which is quite long and dry, and pass your way to victory.

"You must remember Halifax drew here last year and Lancaster lost. I know the majority of Chester fans will not know Wakefield and maybe they don’t realise how big a victory this is - but it is.

"Winning football games is a good habit and hopefully these lads will get into that habit.

"We’ve still got quite a lot of work to do, getting to know each other and working on certain things, but what we intend to do is while we’re working on these things is still win games of football.

"We’ve done that today and I thought we were full value for our three points, although we could have made it easier on ourselves."
