Chester FC: Chester FC boss Neil Young swoops for striker Michael Wilde

BLUES boss Neil Young tonight completed the capture of number one transfer target Michael Wilde.

The former TNS, Fleetwood Town and FC Halifax Town hitman has turned down offers from club’s higher up the non-league ladder to join Chester FC.

A delighted Young, who signed the 27-year-old striker when he was manager of Poulton Victoria, said: “He’s good lad, quick and strong with a proven track record of scoring goals at a higher level.”

Young is also close to completing the signing of a classy and experienced centre-back on the eve of the Blues’ pre-season opener at Colwyn Bay on Saturday (3pm).

That match not only marks Chester’s first since their reformation, but also the first time Young has returned to the club he led to promotion out of the Evo-Stik League First Division North.

Young said: “Colwyn Bay, as Chester fans will see, epitomises everything good about non-league football – nice surroundings, nice fans and a nice ground.

“I really enjoyed my time there and it will be good to meet up with some familiar faces, but more importantly it will be a day of celebration for Chester fans.”

One of the “familiar faces” to Young will be groundsman Elfed Morris, who is better known to Chester supporters as a member of the club’s legendary ‘Famous Five’ forward line.

Defender Carl Ruffer (holiday) and winger Roger Sharrock (injury) will miss Saturday’s match.
