Chester FC: Blues re-sign fans' favourite Carl Ruffer

Carl Ruffer

FANS’ favourite Carl Ruffer has returned to his hometown club to become Chester manager Neil Young’s 14th signing of the summer.

Chester-born Ruffer played more than 100 times for the Blues between 2000 and 2004 and was part of the squad that won the Conference and promotion back to the Football League.

The experienced 35-year-old defender played for Droylsden and Witton Albion last season and has also appeared for Morecambe, Runcorn Town and Rhyl in a well-travelled career.

Young has also swooped for the services of former Everton and Wigan Athletic player Gary Powell.

The 41-year-old will take on the role as Chester’s first-team coach, working alongside boss Young and assistant manager Gary Jones.

Young said: "Gary is a great lad who I have worked with before and will be a great acquisition to our management team, and ultimately our club."
