Chester City FC: Blues cannot afford to extend loan of Rochdale midfielder Clark Keltie

CHESTER’S survival hopes were dealt a fresh blow last night when Jim Harvey revealed the cash-strapped club are unable to extend the loan of Clark Keltie.

The 26-year-old midfielder has been a revelation since making the switch from Rochdale in September, and his departure comes a week after Blues boss Harvey was forced to send back fellow loanees Johnny Flynn and Michael Coulson.

Harvey said: “It looks like we’re losing Clark Keltie as the club are saying they will not be able to afford him. Clark wanted to come back and I wanted him to come back. It’s a massive shame.”

Harvey could also be without Rhys Meynell, Adam Kay and Kevin Roberts for Saturday’s visit of Eastbourne Borough to the Deva Stadium (3pm). Michael Lea has an outside chance of being fit but Neil Ashton is a definite non-starter.

Harvey was pleased with how his rock-bottom side played in Tuesday night’s reverse at Stevenage Borough.

He said: “After a few defeats on the run and given all the issues around the club at the moment, they really battled and played with a lot of effort, guts, determination and intelligence.”

City, who are away to Cambridge United on Tuesday (7.45pm), have been drawn at home to Fleetwood Town in the FA Trophy first round.

Chester’s youth team won 1-0 at Wrexham on Saturday courtesy of an early strike from Sam Coulter.
