Chester City FC: Mick Wadsworth fears the worst for Chris Lynch injury – but is impressed by substitute Shaun Kelly

THE one sour note of an otherwise positive afternoon for Chester City was the serious-looking knee injury sustained by Chris Lynch.

The centre-back has been City’s outstanding performer since signing on loan from Premier League new boys Burnley.

But Blues boss Mick Wadsworth fears the 18-year-old will be heading back to Turf Moor earlier than expected after he hobbled off early into the derby draw at Wrexham.

Wadsworth said: “It looks like a serious injury, sadly, but I hope it’s not. It’s a big blow for him and a big blow for us because he’s an outstanding player.”

Wadsworth could take solace, however, in the performance of Lynch’s replacement Shaun Kelly, who excelled alongside captain and man of the match Tim Ryan in the heart of Chester’s defence.

Wadsworth said: “Luckily in Shaun Kelly we have got a centre-half in there and I thought he did very well when he came on. Gareth Taylor can destroy you and when he’s on his game, he’s very hard to stop. But he didn’t dominate Chester City and I’m quite proud of that.”
