Chester City FC: On-loan Burnley duo Chris Lynch and Adam Kay make instant impression at the Blues

THE latest recruits to the Chester cause are relishing the prospect of first-team football with the Blues – after one of the most exciting weeks of their young footballing careers.

Chris Lynch and Adam Kay were in the stands last Wednesday as their club, newly-promoted Burnley, caused the biggest shock of the Premier League season so far when they beat defending-champions Manchester United at an electric Turf Moor.

Three days later and they were making their City debuts at Luton Town after Owen Coyle agreed to loan the highly-rated duo to the Deva Stadium until January.

It was centre-back Lynch’s first ever senior start and he responded with a man-of-the-match winning performance that belied his 18 years.

Lynch said: “I was very pleased with how it went. I got chucked in at the deep end, coming in the day before the game, but I really enjoyed it.

“It was definitely a step up from playing youth team football and reserve team football. Playing first-team football will be a big boost and it will help me when I go back to Burnley.

“It’s been a good week all-round and hopefully that can continue.”

Attacking midfielder Kay is more experienced than Lynch but he is hardly a veteran having played just three senior games while on loan with Accrington Stanley last season.

The 19-year-old, who linked-up well with Stephen Vaughan in the centre of the park before coming off with cramp, said: “I like to get forward a lot so that uses up quite a lot of my fitness, but if I tidy that up I think I’ll be all right in a couple of matches.

“I just need to get into a roll of playing first-team matches, which I’ve not been doing in the last year or so. Once I do that hopefully I’ll start creating and scoring a few goals.”

On first impressions, Blues boss Mick Wadsworth has captured a couple of gems – and for that he thanks Burnley’s highly-rated young manager Coyle.

Wadsworth said: “Burnley have been unbelievably generous in allowing us to have these two boys until January as they’re bearing most of the cost. That’s a wonderful gesture from Owen, but I would expect no less from him as he’s a real, real gentleman.

“The two young lads came into the mixer on Saturday and they came off with great credit.

“Adam had cramp. On Friday morning I wasn’t going to play him, but I thought, ‘to hell with it’, because if we found out at Luton I knew it would help me for this Saturday – and I’m terrifically pleased I did.”
