Chester City FC: Ryan Lowe says he may have to leave

ONE of the first departures following Chester City’s inevitable relegation could be Ryan Lowe after the talismanic top-scorer admitted he does not see his future in non-league football.

City are almost certain to join Luton Town in the dreaded drop out of the Football League as Saturday’s draw at Aldershot Town has left them needing a miracle to survive.

Lowe has done all he can to stop the club from sliding back into the Conference and his 18-goal return is a remarkable achievement given Chester’s struggles and given he is not an out-and-out striker.

That has made the 30-year-old a firm fans’ favourite in his second spell at the Deva Stadium. But he admits Saturday’s final game of the season at home to Darlington might be his last in a Blue shirt.

Lowe, re-signed from Crewe Alexandra in the summer, said: “The lads are all bitterly disappointed. They’re sitting on the bus and none of them have said a word – you could hear a pin drop.

“I’ve got to sit down with the chairman and the owner and discuss my future in the next couple of weeks.

“I don’t think I’m ready to go to the Conference just yet. I was playing League One last season and I don’t think I’m ready to drop down two leagues in the space of 12 months.

“We’ve still got a game to play against Darlington. I’ll give it 100%, as all the lads will, and try and give Chester a good send off. Then I’ll sit down and discuss my future.”
