Chester City: Glenn Rule wins high praise from Mark Wright

ONE of Chester’s unsung heroes has been given a glowing endorsement by his manager.

The versatile Glenn Rule is fast becoming a mainstay in City’s defence and on Saturday, on his 17th senior start, he produced arguably his best performance yet in a Blue shirt as he kept Bradford City’s experienced strike pairing of Michael Boulding and Paul Mullin quiet.

While the Birkenhead-born 19-year-old was edged out in the man-of-the-match honours by Richie Partridge, Mark Wright had high praise for the youth team product.

“For a young kid of 19, to be involved in a dogfight like this and to keep performing consistently as well as he has, is some achievement,” said the former England centre-back.

“You don’t see any thrills and spills from him, he heads it, he clears it, he talks and his reading of the game is very, very good. I think he’s done exceptionally well.

“It’s great to see someone like him stepping up and making his mark in the League. He can play left-back, right-back, as a sweeper and as a holding midfield player, so he’s a great player to have around.”
