Chester City FC in move for midfield duo

CHESTER City are on the trail of Bradford City’s Eddie Johnson and Yeovil’s Anthony Barry.

The Blues today offered two-year contracts to the pair, who are keen to return to their North West roots.

City boss Simon Davies said: "They both fit the description of how we want to play. They were two of the fittest lads at their clubs last season and that’s the way we want to go."

Chester owner Stephen Vaughan added: "We’ve offered them both terms and it is the best we can put forward.

"Hopefully they’ll accept."

Chester-born Johnson, a former Bishops’ High pupil, is out of contract at Bradford. The 23-year-old, who can play either in midfield or as a striker, started his career at Manchester United and has also played for Royal Antwerp, Coventry City and Crewe Alexandra (all on loan).

Liverpool-born Barry, 24, was a regular for Yeovil in League One last season and has also played for Accrington and Coventry.

Chester are hoping for a quick response from both players.
