Griffiths: I’m up for the challenge

HUW Griffiths is relishing his new role as Chester City assistant manager.

The 32-year-old was unveiled as boss Simon Davies’ number two at the Deva Stadium this morning.

He said: “It’s a great challenge. Chester managed to avoid the drop and we’ve got a new challenge to go at this season.

“Simon’s a very ambitious person and I am as well. We’re both new age coaches and we’ve got contacts with big clubs.”

Griffiths, a former Wales under 18 international, saw his playing career ruined by a series of injuries so he concentrated on coaching from an early age, building up an impressive list of badges and qualifications. He was assistant to Peter Davenport at Bangor City and also worked with the former Manchester United striker at Southport until both departed towards the end of last season.

Griffiths, who is from North Wales, knows Davies from their time together at Bangor and has been invited to do his pro licence this summer.
