Tired heroes praised by boss Davies

SIMON Davies forgave his team’s tired performance on Saturday after their heroics to win a point against Stockport and guaranteed their safety in League Two last week.

“It was a lethargic performance from the boys,” said Davies.

“I think they relaxed and maybe they relaxed too much but we gave everything against Stockport and I mean everything and I was proud of each and every one of them.

“Taking positives from the last three games we kept three clean sheets.

“We haven’t netted but it was enough to keep us away from the trapdoor.”

Chester could have had two penalties, when a James Vaughan cross was blocked by the hand of Andrew Teague and late on when Kevin Sandwith was floored in the box, but both appeals were turned down by Leeds official Jon Moss.

“It’s one of them where it would have been unfair for either team to win,” said Davies.

He reserved praise for the two young players he brought on in the second half – Andy Mitchell and Glenn Rule.

“Mitchell is a real good player,” said Davies. “He’s really positive and if we can get a bit more of an end product out of him we’ve got half a player there.

“Glenn’s been doing really well but he didn’t relax and do himself justice when he got on and I told him so but he’s a half-decent player and he could have a big future at the club.”
