Williamson: Fans have got to stay with us

BOBBY Williamson has pleaded with fans to “stick together” and keep faith with his out-of-form Chester City team.

The Blues boss spoke out after Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Notts County – City’s sixth loss in eight League Two fixtures. Having been treated to some excellent football in the early months of Williamson’s reign, supporters are becoming increasingly concerned by Chester’s recent slump.

But Williamson said: “The fans have just got to stay with us because I’ve got belief in these guys. I think they give everything they’ve got and they do work hard. The only problem at times is that their confidence gets sapped and it looks as if there’s a lack of effort.

“I can assure the fans that’s not the case. They will work hard for each other because they want to do well and it’s only a matter of time before we get a break and we start winning games again.”

Chester were sixth in the table when they posted their last victory – a 2-1 success over Bury at the Deva Stadium on December 22. Since then, they have picked up just one point from 18 and have slipped down to 12th in League Two.

Williamson added: “It’s about performances and I’ve been encouraged by the performances. I hope the fans are not too despondent going home. I know they will be disappointed, as we all are, but we’ve got to stick together and I’m sure we’ll get through this wee spell and start picking up results.”
