Bradford City 1 Chester City 0

CHESTER were dumped out of the FA Cup by 10-man Bradford on Saturday as they tumbled to their second defeat at Valley Parade in the space of five days.

Having lost 2-1 to the Bantams in League Two last Tuesday, the Blues were looking to exact swift revenge on Stuart McCall-s men – but they turned in a below-par performance and could have few complaints about the final score.

Bradford netted the only goal of the game in the 27th minute through Peter Thorne, who looped a header beyond keeper John Danby from a pin-point cross by Paul Evans.

Chester’s chances of getting back into the game were enhanced just before half-time when home striker Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu was sent off for picking up two yellow cards inside six minutes.

But Bobby Williamson’s men – sorely missing the influence of the injured Richie Partridge and John Murphy – could not find a way past Bradford’s stubborn defence and their 628 travelling fans were sent home disappointed.

The Bantams were handed a home tie against Tranmere Rovers in yesterday’s second-round draw.
