CARL Tremarco could come to Chester City – but only if the deal is right.
The Wrexham left-back is out of contract at the Racecourse and is the latest name linked to Chester City, with Simon Davies apparently keeping tabs on him since his contract expired.
Tremarco is close to Dragons boss Brian Little – the pair were together at Tranmere Rovers – but the prospect of a season in the Blue Square Premier may be enough to drive Tremarco away from North Wales and into the arms of their bitter cross-border rivals.
“Wrexham have made me a pretty decent offer and there is nothing else on the table at the moment,” said the 22-year-old.
“Obviously I would like to stay in the Football League but the deal has to be right for me.
“I am going to wait a couple of weeks, take some time out before I let Wrexham know what my decision is on their offer, But I’m not going to drag it out and leave Wrexham in the lurch.
“I am not too concerned about it to be honest.”
Tremarco is the latest in a series of players Davies has been linked with.
Free agent Phil Edwards, Accrington Stanley’s players’ player of the season and, like Paul Linwood, a versatile defender, is one of the names which has been doing the rounds but Chester City’s managing director Bob Gray said that there had been no approaches to new players in his knowledge.
“It is still early days but I am not aware of any deals being offered to new players,” he said.
Today the club is meeting with the playing squad to formally announce who will be retained and who will be released.
“We haven’t even concluded our retained list until all the players have been told,” said Gray.
“Until that is sorted we won’t be making moves for other players.”
Chester have already signed deals with six young players to keep them at the Deva next season.
Sean Newton, Shaun Kelly, Paul Rutherford, Chris Holroyd and Paul McManus have all penned new deals while Glenn Rule and Andy Mitchell have signed first-year professional terms.
John Danby, Kevin Ellison, John Murphy, Laurence Wilson, James Vaughan, Kevin Roberts, Mark Hughes and Richie Partridge all have one year remaining on their contracts but Paul Butler and Tony Dinning, who also have time left on their deals, are expected to leave.
Skipper Paul Linwood is the highest profile free-agent from Chester’s 2007-08 squad, with Phil Palethorpe, Simon Marples, Kevin Sandwith, Dean Bennett, Sean Hessey, Tony Grant and Simon Yeo also out of contract.
