ONE win out of two matches last weekend wasn’t exactly the plan – especially as the defeat was against local rivals Mersey Tigers – but nonetheless we are happy to have escaped from the Northgate on Sunday with the points against Durham.
The Wildcats may be the new boys to the league, but no-one seems to be putting them away that easily.
It was by no means a classic but it was a game where both teams gave it everything with us just managing to sneak over the line.
We have quite a few injury problems but everyone continued to put their bodies on the line in a game where we were out- manned and under-sized.
There’s been a lot of talk about why we are closing out games so poorly and whether it’s down to the tiredness that can be put down to our short rotation.
In my view I think it’s more a case of us being a little too tentative and playing to avoid the loss rather than playing to grab the victory.
This hands the momentum to the other side, which then puts us on the back foot. Also with the short rotation we will always have a couple of guys in foul trouble down the stretch, which means we can’t be as aggressive defensively as we would like.
These are things that as players we need to adjust to and look to execute a successful game plan when the games are on the line.
With the Christmas break around the corner the team would like to thank everyone that has made our time here with the Jets such a great experience.
The fans are the heartbeat of the club so hopefully as a team we can send everyone into the Christmas break happy after a win this Sunday against the Lions.
Please come and support us if you can!
