BBL Cup: Former Cheshire Jets will turn out for Plymouth Raiders against Newcastle Eagles in final

WITH no Cheshire Jets game this weekend, there is still plenty happening with some of the club’s old boys competing in the BBL Cup final at Birmingham’s NIA.

Fabulous Flournoy’s Newcastle Eagles face Gavin Love’s Plymouth Raiders on Sunday in a match televised live on Sky Sports Three and in high definition from 3.30pm.

In the first of the BBL’s showpiece finales of 2012, Love will have three former Jets at his disposal, including last season’s  Most Valuable Player Jeremy Bell and a rookie who was switched to the Mersey Tigers early in the 2010/11 campaign, Jamal Williams.

Anthony Martin, another former Jet, is also available for Love and Flournoy is under no illusions as to the size of the ask facing his side.
“Gavin has done a great job putting a team together with all the right components,” he said.

“They’ve made a tremendous start to the season.

“Jeremy Bell really gives them an extra dimension both as a point guard and a shooter, Paul Williams is a big pick up for them and Lehmon Colbert is having a great sophomore season and played really well for them.

“Then they have the guys like James Jones, Anthony Rowe and Anthony Martin who do a quiet but efficient job for them. They can hurt you without you even realising.”

Love, a former Raiders player himself, said reaching the final meant a lot to him.

“We’ve worked really hard to get here,” he said. “We’ve not made it to a final for a few years, the fans are excited and it’s a great honour to lead the club I love to a final.”
