THE eve of the latest derby clash between the Mersey Tigers and Cheshire Jets has Tony Garbelotto wondering how he will get his best team to turn up at Knowsley tomorrow night.
The Tigers have been sublime, as the Jets found out earlier this season in the BBL Championship, but they have also been wayward and Garbelotto is looking at the little changes that he hopes will make them more consistent.
“We are concentrating on improving our team in all areas at present,” he said.
“We seem to be almost up to speed on our conditioning and now we need to cut out of the little mistakes that are hurting our performance.
“We played well in longer periods against Durham. Considering we were without Devan Bailey I was very pleased. We are getting better with each practice and I hope that soon we can really translate that into the games.”
Last time the sides met Garbelotto was struck by the Jets rookie guard Adam Brown, and he will focus attention on the young man tomorrow.
“I was really impressed with Adam Brown last game. He is quick, not afraid to take the big shots. Of course Matt Scneck and Colin O'Reilly are also big game players.”
Sunday brings the Durham Wildcats to the Northgate Arena for the first time since they joined the BBL.
They beat the Jets last time out but coach Dave Elderkin noted how the Jets bounced back.
“Having beaten Chester and seen their reaction it's all about the mental side of the game,” he said.
