Jetstream: Mentality collapse cost us victory – O’Reilly

AT the moment it seems to be a case of two steps forward and one step back for our team.

Sunday’s performance showed our potential as well as our weaknesses all in the space of an electrifying 40 minutes.

Newcastle came into our building as undefeated league leaders and we out-played them for 35 minutes which should have been enough to gain a great victory.

Our energy and passion throughout this time can only be applauded but unfortunately we had a mental collapse closing out the second quarter and beginning the third, which ultimately cost us.

This seems to have happened to us on numerous occasions during this campaign and is something that we, as players, will have to find a solution for.

These losses have been frustrating for the team but we know that we are only a few minor adjustments away from being a top team.

In that respect, the fact we don’t have a game this weekend has come at a perfect time. It gives us a nice mini pre-season before our crucial three-game stretch in December and even more importantly, gives Matt (Schneck) a chance to recover from his ankle injury which he sustained in the second quarter of the Eagles game.

Matt is tough enough so he’ll give it every chance to be ready for our next game which is another derby game against the Mersey Tigers.

This three-game stretch in which we play the Tigers, Durham Wildcats and the Milton Keynes Lions will shape our season and show us where our true standing among the league really is – so as players, we are pouring every ounce of energy into getting positive results.

Since it’s Thanksgiving this week the team are heading to the Faulkner Bar and Kitchen In Hoole for an American-style celebration. So if you’re reading this on Thursday and are interested in some Stars and Stripes fun this evening do come and join us. The more the merrier!Š
