Cheshire Jets: Leicester Riders coach Rob Paternostro picks out Adam Brown as Jets danger man in BBL Cup

ROB Paternostro knows his Leicester Riders can expect a tougher game in the BBL Cup at the Northgate Arena than their 80-59 victory in the Championship last month.

But he could target Adam Brown as the key to his side’s success.

Paternostro believes by keeping the rookie guard from controlling possession, the Jets will find launching offence difficult.

“Brown’s a steadying influence on them,” said Paternostro. “He’s also out there all game, and we tried to get the ball out of his hands as they only have one other guard.

“Matt Schneck and Adam Brown are definitely their key players. Schneck is an absolute workhorse, he’s playing 40 minutes per game and averaging 15 rebounds a game.

“You have to keep an eye on him because the minute you don’t box him out, he’s there.”

The Riders victory over the Jets remains their only heavy defeat of the season but Paternostro knows his side will need to be on point to win again at the Northgate.

“Last time we played Cheshire I was happy with the way we defended.

“Since then we are both ‘different’ teams, they have improved and we like to think we have as well.

Jets head coach John Lavery admitted his team didn’t match expectations last time the sides met, but he and his staff have worked hard to rectify that.

He said: “We didn’t play very well at all the first time we met this season, we just need to step up.

“It doesn’t matter whether its trophy, league or cup, every game is important.”
