AFTER bringing the hammer down on Guildford Heat in the second half last Sunday, Cheshire Jets guard Adam Brown feels like his side could embark on a long run.
“Winning is contagious,” he said. “That’s what we want to get addicted to because losing is a bad habit.”
The Heat victory was the Jets second win in a row and their first in the BBL Championship. Brown put up 27 points in the game, but 19 of them came in the second half.
“In the first half was pretty atrocious,” admitted the 22-year-old Texan. “Colin (O’Reilly) did a great job keeping us in the game.
“But second half I knew I had to get it together. The shots started falling for me, people started running screens for me so it’s good.
“I focus on anything I can do to help us win. I saw us going through a little drought of scoring so I took it upon myself to put up some shots.
“In the first half it wasn’t coming so I kept on with my assists.”
This weekend the Jets travel to Durham Wildcats on Saturday before entertaining Glasgow Rocks on Sunday at the Northgate Arena (5.30pm)
And Brown is confident the Jets’ current run will continue.
“I think we’re doing good, we’re coming together more as a team, we’re more cohesive and the zone defence is a work in progress but it came out big against the Heat,” he said.
“You hear a lot of people say you have to score to win but you’ve got to get stops in order to get a better score than other people so defence comes first.
“The polish is there now. Offence is all timing and we didn’t have that at first.
“We didn’t really know each other’s game at all but we know what to expect from each other night in night out now.”
Sunday will mark the first time in three weeks the Jets have played at the Northgate but Brown does not feel playing away is too much of a disadvantage.
“For me personally, I feel I play better on the road,” he said. “You have time to focus on the game.
“I think we play harder because we’re there by ourselves. Some fans try to come but they’re outnumbered so we have to pull together more.”
