BBL Championship: Sterling Davis wary of Cheshire Jets' downtown range

GLASGOW Rocks come to the Northgate Arena on Sunday (5.30pm) as the BBL Championship’s two third-placed sides meet up for a key battle in the title race.

Both the Rocks and the Jets have 11 wins from their first 15 games and Paul Smith’s side will want to square the series between them having lost 91-87 when they travelled to Glasgow in mid-December.

Rocks’ player-coach Sterling Davis knows what to expect as his side travel to Chester.

“They have a lot of offensive threats and versatility at every position,” he said.

“Obviously Jeremy Bell has been leading them game after game but you can’t take away from the likes of Quemont Greer and also Colin O’Reilly who both have good inside/outside games.

“We have to do a better job of getting out on their three-point shot. They really shot well at our place but a lot of those shots were uncontested.

“We have to guard out past 20 feet.”

The Rocks maintained their title push with a 90-83 home win against Plymouth Raiders last week, and Davis was delighted with their display.

“We played a real good defensive game again,” he said.

“It was a very unselfish performance which is always good to see. I thought Mike Copeland really stepped up for us defensively. I really challenged Mike to improve and he showed me what he is capable of.”
