National League: Jordan Smith tops the scorers as Cheshire Jets reserves see off Teeside Mohawks

TEESIDE Mohawks were the visitors to the Northgate Arena on Sunday as the Cheshire Jets 2nds welcomed them for an EBL National League Division Four contest.

It was closely fought, with the Jets side featuring a mix of their best youth players and a couple of more experienced heads in assistant coach Richard Murphy and first-team bench players Phil Brandreth and Ryan Gallagher.

But it was Jordan Smith, son of the first-team head-coach Paul Smith, who stood out as he made 23 points to top-score in the game.

Neil Gillard, another player who has been on the fringes of the first team this season, was not far behind with 21 and Brandreth added 17 as the Jets pulled out a good last quarter to seal a 98-87 win.

On Saturday the Jets’ under 18 men entertained City of Birmingham at Stanney Oaks in Ellesmere Port and won 100-86 in the North Premier.

The Junior Jets 2nds slipped to a 101-89 home defeat to Liverpool City Tigers in the Northern Conference.

Oldham Titans were defeated 84-70 by the Jets 2nds in the U16 Boys North West Conference on Sunday.

But in the girls North Division, the Jets were unlucky to lose by two points 65-63 at Stockport Lapwings.

In the North West Division, Cheshire Jets girls U14s played host to the Manchester Mystics.

But it was a difficult match and the Mystics emerged 66-41 winners.
